TOURISTY – NON – TOURISTY PRAGUE

If you are reading this article then you are probably visiting Prague, or planning to it, or … at least have an idea. We are totally for this idea, cause we are in love with this city and would like to share it with you!

Since we are not originally from Prague, we have had a very different experience with this city: it welcomed us for the first time as tourists and accepted us as newly appearing “locals”. But you are travelling! You are limited in time and thus want to get as much as possible from your stay here. This is what we are going to help you with in this article.

Let’s see what Prague offers to tourists and how it differs from what it offers to locals.

TOURISTY – NON – TOURISTY PRAGUE

  1. Having the best of traditional Czech food and beer

Tourist – Pivovarsky Dům Local – Smíchovský Sklípek

Great location and recognizable (or not?) name attracts crowds from all the possible nations! Great Czech cuisine, different types of beer from the own brewery, staff speaking different languages, and affordable prices. All good, but make sure to make a reservation, we just told you, it is very well located!

Again, good quality food, beer, original cosy (but specific) interior – a very traditional beer restaurant. The staff is nice, location is also great, however you do not see it on the first sight! To get to Sklípek, you need to know where you go, you do not find it just randomly walking around.

  1. Enjoying a beautiful view on Prague

Tourist – Prague Castle view Local – Letná Park view

Oh yes, if you’re in Prague you simply have to visit the Prague Castle. Seriously from an experienced traveller’s point of view this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Not only the castle, but all the surrounding buildings and galleries, parks, and… views! Absolutely worth seeing.

Prague Castle,

Closest tram stations: Malostranská, Malostranské Náměstí, Pražsky Hrad

Letná is a park, which offers its visitors a very good walk, open air party point on a Metronome, and views! Apart from Prague Castle, from Letná, you see the river and the beautiful bridges, the hill is not that high, so kind of see things closer. We recommend to come back here at night as well.

Park Letná, Prague 7 – Holešovice

Closest tram stations: Nábřeží Kapitana Jaroše, Strossmayerovo náměstí.

Other view points you might like: Dancing House, Terrasa Tanker, Balcony Bar, Restaurace Zvonice, Žižkov tower, Riegrovy sady, Petřin, Vyšehrad

  1. Walking in a beautiful park

Tourist – Valdštejnská Zahrada Local – Vojanovy Sady

This garden is probably that popular because is located right under the Prague Castle and it’s very likely to pass it going to or from there. And this popularity is deserved: this place is indeed very beautiful. A great place to walk, enjoy the fountain and view on Prague Castle.

This park is not so obvious and not that easy to find, though is located just near the mentioned points (7 minutes walk from Valdštejnská Zahrada and Malostranská tram station). This park is quiet, a perfect place to relax under the blooming magnolias and… to meet peacocks! They walk freely among people any season here.

Other parks you might like: Petřiny, Zahrady pod Pražským Hradem, Riegrovy Sady, Havlíčkovy Sady, Park Ladronka, Stromovka

  1. Shopping

Tourist – Shopping malls Local – Markets

Oh yes! We know that most tourists won’t miss the chance to go shopping in Prague. Here are some standard famous places: Palladium, Pařížská street, Na Přikope street, Václavské náměstí. And they are indeed full of the most famous fashion shops of any price / age / style / quality.

Prague 1, nám. Republiky 1, 110 00 Petrská čtvrť

For those who are tired of the same brands in almost all European cities and would like to get some authentic experience local markets are a perfect place. Food, souvenirs, clothes, antique goods – all with a traditional and very Czech spirit. We certainly recommend markets for those, who would like to see real Prague.

Náměstí republiky, Jiřího z Poděbrad, Náměstí Miru, Václavské náměstí, Staroměstské náměstí and so on.

  1. Sightseeing

Tourist – Castles Local – Libraries

Of course you have to see if you’re here, it’s a must. As was already mentioned before, Prague Castle is really one of the most beautiful things in the world, so are most of Czech castles in other cities. But when you finish your standard sightseeing tour, continue with the second part.

119 08 Praha 1, Pražsky Hrad

Aaand this is the second part. You know, there are so many “unusual” places to visit, libraries are in the list. Just look at the picture… I mean, you do not have to study (nay), but just stop by to see this! You might also want to see Sex Machines Museum, Museum of Communism, Jew museum, Museum of senses, Invisible exhibition and so on.

Klementinum 190, Prague 1 (Národní Knihovna Praha)

All the places are located in Prague center or a short distance from it. All Prague sightseeing points as well as locals’ favourites have a perfect transport possibilities: tram and bus lines and often located metro stations are available and visible everywhere.

Our apartments are literally surrounded by touristic points! And, on the other hand, you can easily find not that crowded spots on a walking distance from each and every Amavi Apartment.
